Brooke Austin, Josie Kuhlman and Peggy Porter are officially GATORS!

Brooke Austin (Indianapolis, Ind.), Josie Kuhlman (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) and Peggy Porter (Dallas, Texas) have signed a National Letter of Intent to continue their respective academic and athletic careers at the University of Florida, women’s tennis head coach Roland Thornqvist announced Wednesday.

Austin, Kuhlman and Porter, each of whom are ranked among the top-10 seniors in the country by tennisrecruiting.net, will be counted on to fill the void next season left by three graduating seniors in Alexandra Cercone (Seminole, Fla.), Olivia Janowicz (Palm Bay, Fla.) and Sofie Oyen (Leopoldsburg, Belgium).

“We are really excited about all three of them,” Thornqvist said. “They are replacing three of the most accomplished players we’ve ever had on this campus, as far as women’s tennis is concerned. So, they certainly have big shoes to fill.

“I think they can make an immediate impact,” Thornqvist praised. “They’re all great kids. They love the Gator Orange and Blue, and like I said, it’s a big, big, class we have to replace, but this is as good of a class as we’ve ever had.”

Florida’s trio is expected to be one of the highest-rated signing classes in the country.

Quotes from the Court:

·         “We’ve been following Brooke for many, many years now. She’s been in the semis of the national championship event a couple of years in a row and played on the big stage at the U.S. Open – very powerful ground strokes, probably the best return in the junior game right now.” – UF head coach Roland Thornqvist on Brooke Austin

·         “Josie’s been training with Todd Martin. She has a tremendous backhand and phenomenal work ethic, which is one of the trademarks of the entire class, frankly.” – UF head coach Roland Thornqvist on Josie Kuhlman

·         “We saw Peggy a few years ago, and she came in on an unofficial visit her junior year and committed to us early. We’ve been excited about Peggy for over a year now. After we got the commitment, I think Peggy has been one of the most improved players in the country.” – UF head coach Roland Thornqvist on Peggy Porter
