LAST TIME OUT | Career Days for Holston, Mann & Unroe Propel No. 5 UF Past TAMU in Five-Set Thriller

·         Stellar performances by senior middle blocker Chloe Mann, freshman right-side hitter Alex Holston and junior libero Taylor Unroe pushed the No. 5 Gator volleyball team to a five-set victory (24-26, 25-23, 25-8, 24-26, 16-14) over Texas A&M Nov. 3 at Reed Arena. It was Florida’s second straight five-set win at Texas A&M and the Gators first five-setter in 2013.

·         For their efforts, Mann (SEC Offensive Player of the Week), Unroe (SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week) and Holston (SEC Freshman of the Week) all picked up SEC weekly honors from the league office.

·         Unroe was unreal from behind the service line, smashing a career-high six service aces, including back-to-back aces to seal the match. Her serve on match point rolled off the top of the tape and dropped untouched to give the Gators the 16-14 fifth set victory.

·         Florida’s 100 points tie for the third-most in program history in the rally scoring era, matching the total from the Gators’ five-set victory over Tennessee on Nov. 21, 2004.

·         For the second straight match, four Gators tallied double-figure kills and double-digit digs. Offensively, Mann (22), Holston (21), Gabby Mallette (10) and Živa Recek (10). Defensively, Florida was led by junior defensive specialist Holly Pole (14), Recek (14), Unroe (12) and sophomore defensive specialist Nikki O’Rourke (10).

·         Sophomore middle blocker Simone Antwi was impressive defensively for the Gators, stuffing a match-high five blocks. She had 13 points on the afternoon with eight kills and two service aces against the Aggies.

·         Unroe not only notched six service aces, she pushed the Gators on an 8-0 run in the third set. In that stretch, the Muncie, Ind. native tallied four of her six aces.

CHLOE’S A “MANN”STER: Senior middle blocker Chloe Mann is hitting .474 for her career and is the Florida career record holder in the category. The reigning SEC Player of the Year is the NCAA active leader in hitting percentage and sits just above the NCAA record holder in career hitting percentage, Penn State’s Arielle Wilson (.468). Mann needs 60 more attempts to be eligible for the NCAA record (10 attacks/reg. season match).

NOT ON OUR WATCH: Florida has forced 18 of its 24 opponents to operate at under .200 hitting efficiency, including three offensive outputs at .000 and below.

NCAA NUMBERS: Senior Chloe Mann leads the NCAA in hitting percentage (.514), while the Gators are second in the nation with a .330 offensive clip. Freshman right-side hitter Alex Holston is 14th in the country with a .428 hitting percentage and senior setter Taylor Brauneis is 14th in assists (11.59/set).

PRESEASON BUZZ: Florida was picked to win the Southeastern Conference title in a preseason vote of the league’s coaches, while senior middle blocker Chloe Mann and sophomore outside hitter Živa Recek were named Preseason All-SEC. Mann is a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award and is representing the Gators with a blog on ESPNW.

At Florida: 708-82 | All-Time: 789-145

MARY’S MINUTE: “(During the bye week) We took a look at our team both offensively and defensively from a team standpoint and an individual standpoint and we identified some areas where we had a great opportunity – where we weren’t focusing on one specific opponent and match preparation – to better our team. The team responded. We have gotten better in lots of different areas. We are going to take the same routine (this week) as we do every week in terms of when we show video, the amount of video and how we lead up to practice. We had bonus time with no classes on Monday and actually started working on South Carolina last week, so we have had plenty of preparation.”

RECORDS: UF (22-2, 11-1 SEC) | S. Carolina (12-13, 3-9 SEC) | Mizzou (29-0, 13-0 SEC) | Bama (20-7, 7-5 SEC)

NEXT UP: No. 7 Missouri – GATOR5K - Pack the O’Dome

·         Florida plays host to No. 7 Mizzou Friday at 7 p.m. on Sun Sports in the O’Dome. The Tigers served the Gators their lone league loss of the season Oct. 20 in Columbia (3-1)

·         The UF vs. Missouri match will be the FIRST top-10 SEC match (any team) since the Gators (10) and LSU

·         Tigers (6) squared off in Baton Rouge Nov. 24, 1991, head coach Mary Wise’s first season in Gainesville, to wrap up regular-season play

·         Florida has NEVER hosted a top-10 SEC match-up in the O’Dome under Wise, therefore, has not lost to a top-10 SEC opponent in the O’Dome

·         Mizzou has never defeated a top-five team on the road

·         The last top-10 match-up in the O’Dome was Sept. 10, 2010: No. 4 UF vs. No. 1 Penn State in the Nike Big Four Classic
