Florida and Texas A&M shared the 2013 SEC regular-season title with identical 9-2 league records. The Gators are the tournament’s top seed based on their regular-season win over A&M. The SEC Tournament expanded a day in 2012 after the addition of Missouri and Texas A&M. No. 4 seeded Mississippi advanced to the semifinal with a 2-0 win over Kentucky on Wednesday.

On Wednesday:

Florida opened its 2013 SEC Tournament play Wednesday with a 1-0 win over Arkansas. The only goal of the match came from Savannah Jordan, the SEC Offensive Player and SEC Freshman of the Year. The ball headed forward from Havana Solaun was deflected high toward the top of the 18-yard box. Jordan caught up to make a quick chip forward and followed the ball to make the scoring touch past the approaching goalkeeper at 23:02.

About the Rebels:

Mississippi advanced to Friday’s semifinal round with a 2-0 win over Kentucky. The Rebels have won three consecutive matches and are 6-1-1 in their last eight matches. Mississippi senior Rafaelle Souza, a 2013 All-SEC first team selection, leads the league with 44 points off of 19 goals and 6 assists. Her goal total is second in the SEC only to Jordan’s 21.

All-SEC Honors:

Seven who will be on the field Friday are among those honored Monday with 2013 SEC honors. Three Gators appear on the league’s first team – Jordan, Solaun and Westphal. Pamela Begič joins Jordan on the SEC Freshman team. Mississippi seniors Mandy McCalla and Souza both are part of the SEC first team and Gretchen Harknett is a SEC Freshman team selection.

Jordan is the SEC Offensive Player of the Year – the first time a freshman has been named the league’s offensive player of the year. She also picked up the SEC Freshman of the Year. Souza is the SEC Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Last Meeting:

When the two teams met earlier this season, Florida used goals from four different players to open 2013 SEC road play with a 4-1 win at then No. 24 Mississippi on Sept. 27. The Gators opened a 3-0 lead through the opening 16 minutes of the match with goals from Jordan, Begič and Claire Falknor. Jillian Graff hit her first goal of the season in the 90th minute to give UF the final margin.

Series Record:

Florida leads the all-time series 17-2-1. The two teams have met four times in SEC Tournament play.

Regular-Season Conference Finish:

Florida – Tied for first overall with Texas A&M with 27 points off a 9-2 record.

Mississippi – Finished fourth with 22 points off a 7-3-1 SEC record.

Rankings:

Florida is ranked No. 5 on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll and Mississippi is No. 22. This is the second consecutive meeting between the two teams that both are ranked in the NSCAA top 25.
