Thursday October 31, 2013Chloe Mann Named Senior CLASS Award Finalist

Gainesville, Fla.

Vote for Chloe HERE once a day, every day until December 9!

Senior middle blocker Chloe Mann (Gainesville, Fla.) was one of ten NCAA® women’s volleyball student-athletes who excel both on and off the court to be selected as finalists for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award® in collegiate volleyball.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

“One would have a difficult time finding a student athlete who has excelled both on the court and in the classroom the way Chloe has at Florida,” Florida head coach Mary Wise said. “Although she didn’t enter our program with the accolades the way many AVCA All-Americans do, she did enter UF as a second semester sophomore when she brought with her 45 credit hours of AP work. It was that same work ethic that propelled her from a position off the bench to a starter who set the NCAA record in hitting percentage her junior year. Chloe is one of the greatest success stories in Florida Volleyball history. She represents all that is good in college athletics.”

Mann currently leads the nation in hitting percentage, registering a .506 offensive clip heading into November and recording a team-high 236 kills in 2013. The Gainesville native is hitting .470 for her career and is the Florida career record holder in the category. The reigning SEC Player of the Year and consensus First Team All-American is the NCAA active leader in hitting percentage and sits just above the NCAA record holder in career hitting percentage, Penn State's Arielle Wilson (.468). Mann needs 116 more attempts to be eligible for the NCAA record (approx. 14.5 attacks/reg. season match).

Mann is impressive off the court as well, maintaining at least a 3.3 GPA throughout her Gator career & beginning her first year at Florida as a second semester sophomore due to AP credits. Chloe has already received her bachelor’s and will finish her master’s in 2014. She is a four-time SEC Academic Honor Roll recipient and was a CoSIDA Academic All-District® honoree in 2012.

The finalists were chosen by a media committee from the list of 30 candidates announced in August. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner. Fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website through December 9. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches’ votes to determine the winner. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2013 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship in December. For more information on all the finalists, visit seniorCLASSaward.com.
