Stefani Stojic won a pair of matches to reach the round of 16.

Gator freshmen Kourtney Keegan (Roswell, Ga.), Stefani Stojic (Melbourne, Australia) and Belinda Woolcock (Melbourne, Australia) each advanced to the round of 16 at the USTA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational that began Thursday at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

Keegan reached the round of 16 of the 64-player singles draw without even having to warm-up, as she received a first-round bye and her second-round opponent withdrew because of injury. The Gator rookie faces top-seeded and No. 18-ranked Plaun Burgmans from Auburn.

Stojic began her tournament with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 victory against Auburn’s Ashley Kitchen, before earning a 7-6 (3), 6-1 win in the next round to advance. Stojic will play Florida State’s second-seeded and No. 46-ranked Daneika Borthwick on Friday.

Woolcock also earned a first-round bye and then jumped out and won the first set 6-2 of her second-round match against Tulsa’s Marcelina Cichon, who then retired.

The four-day event features a 64-player singles draw that includes 14 byes.

Keegan and Stojic will pair together for the first time and begin doubles action on Friday, having received one of eight first-round byes in the 32-team doubles field.

“It was a good start to the tournament for us today with all three players advancing to the round of 16. There will be tougher matches tomorrow and I’m looking forward to seeing how we handle it.” – UF associate head coach Dave Balogh
