Sunday October 20, 2013No. 2 Gators Fall Short to No. 18 Missouri in Four
The No. 2 University of Florida volleyball team put up a fight but fell short Sunday, dropping a 3-1 (23-25, 23-25, 25-23, 18-25) match to No. 18 Missouri at the Hearnes Center. Mizzou remains one of two undefeated teams in the NCAA and stands solo atop the Southeastern Conference standings.
Alex Holston led all players with a career-high 17 kills against the Tigers, hitting .583 on the afternoon. Sophomore outside hitter Živa Recek turned in the 15th double-double of her Gator career, the sixth of 2013, with 15 kills and 10 digs for a match-high 17.5 points.
· Senior middle blocker Chloe Mann also had double-digit kills, tallying 11 on the afternoon. Fellow middle blocker Simone Antwi almost hit double figures with nine kills Sunday.
· Junior libero Taylor Unroe led the Gator defense with a match-high 18 digs against the Tigers, serving up an ace and dishing out three assists.
· Junior defensive specialist Holly Pole scooped 13 digs, her highest defensive output of the season and her sixth double-digit dig performance of 2013.
· The Gators tallied more kills than the Tigers, 60-57, but were out-matched in every other statistical category. Sunday marks only the second time all season the Gators have been outhit.
Mary’s Minute: “This was a great SEC match. These teams went toe-to-toe and as the set scores indicated, it was very close. We scored enough points to win but give credit to Mizzou. They played really well in front of a great crowd.”

All-Time Against Missouri: The Gators are 3-1 all-time against Missouri, sweeping the Tigers in both meetings a year ago and taking a 3-1 decision in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament.
Up Next: The Orange and Blue return to the O’Connell Center Oct. 25 & 27 against Auburn and Tennessee. The Gators and the Tigers match up at 7 p.m. ET on Friday, October 25 and the Gators look to earn their first win over the Lady Vols since 2010 on Sunday, October 27 at 1:30 p.m. ET.
