Wednesday October 9, 2013Gator Baseball Announces Fall Practice Schedule

Gainesville, Fla.

The University of Florida baseball team will open its fall practice sessions on Saturday, Oct. 12, at McKethan Stadium. The entire squad will have workouts, including several scrimmages, between Oct. 12 and Nov. 24.

The team has been conducting individual workouts and conditioning drills since the beginning of the fall semester. Head coach Kevin O'Sullivan begins his seventh season at the helm and is joined by assistant coaches Craig Bell, Brad Weitzel and Buddy Munroe.

“We are all excited about getting on the field again,” O’Sullivan said. “The Fall will allow us to evaluate our players and determine roles for our team. We have a very good core of players returning a talented group of newcomers that should make the fall practice competitive.”

Practices during the week will be held Tuesday and Wednesday at 3:15 p.m., Thursday at 6:15 p.m., Friday at 3:15 p.m., Saturday at 10 a.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m. The schedule can be subject to change depending on weather or other events held on campus and will be provided on www.GatorZone.com each week. UF will have practice this Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 12-13, and will be off next Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 14-15.

The Gators will begin their 2014 campaign on February 14 at McKethan Stadium against Maryland. Last season, Florida advanced to NCAA Regionals for the sixth year in a row and has reached the College World Series in three of the past four campaigns. The Orange and Blue returns 20 letterwinners, including six position starters, and welcomes its fifth-consecutive top-8 recruiting class.

UF’s 56-game schedule features 34 games at home, where the squad is 175-50 (.778) during O’Sullivan’s tenure. In addition to the season-opening, three-game series against Maryland from Friday-Sunday, Feb. 14-16, Florida will also welcome traditional Sunshine State rivals Florida State (March 18), Florida A&M (April 23), Florida Atlantic (April 1), Florida Gulf Coast (Feb. 27 & March 1), Jacksonville (April 22), North Florida (Feb. 19), UCF (April 2) and USF (May 13).

Other foes who will visit include Connecticut (March 7-9), Illinois (Feb. 28 & March 2), Illinois State (March 12) and Mercer (May 6). The five, three-game SEC home series pit the Gators against Arkansas (March 14-16), LSU (March 28-30), Georgia (April 18-20), Missouri (April 25-27) and Vanderbilt (May 9-11).
