The 2012 SEC Champion women's cross country team was honored at halftime of UF vs. Arkansas Saturday.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The 2012 SEC Champion women’s cross country team, led by assistant track and field coach Paul Spangler, relived last fall’s league title Saturday at the Florida vs. Arkansas football game at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

In front of a crowd of 90,043, the 2012 SEC Champions were honored at halftime in the first night game at The Swamp in nearly two years.

Led by Spangler, the 2012 SEC Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year, the Gators brought home the 2012 SEC Championship from Nashville last fall.

For the third time in the last four years – and the sixth time overall – the SEC Title made its way back to Gainesville. After winning back-to-back titles in 2009 and 2010, the Orange and Blue struck again for a sixth SEC title (’84, ’96, ’97, ’09, ’10, ’12) in women’s program history, the second-most for an SEC women’s cross country squad.

The Gators are mid-way through the 2013 season and will be on a quest for a seventh league title when UF hosts the 2013 SEC Championships in Gainesville Nov. 1.

Florida’s women’s squad next heads to the Disney Cross Country Classic Oct. 12 in Orlando. UF will then head to the ultra-competitive and top-25 saturated Wisconsin adidas Invitational for a solid mid-season test before the championship portion of the 2013 campaign begins.
