Brianna Morgan fell in the final.

The University of Florida’s Brianna Morgan (Beverly Hills, Calif.) dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Virginia’s No. 9-ranked Julia Elbaba in the final of the singles consolation draw at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships held at the Riviera Tennis Center on Sunday.


The Gator sophomore, ranked No. 64 in the country, enjoyed a great six-day run on the courts, where she won three matches in the qualifying draw to earn a spot in the main draw, where she played five more higher-ranked opponents, including three in the top-10.

Morgan’s Run vs. Ranked Foes:

Prior to playing in the qualifying draw of this year’s Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, the

·         highest-ranked opponent defeated: No. 81 Francesca Segarelli (Florida State), 6-0, 6-1, in ITA Southeast Regional Round of 32 (Oct. 19, 2012)

·         highest-ranked opponent played: No. 53 Lauren Herring (Georgia), lost 6-1, 3-6, 7-5, ITA Southeast Regional Round of 16 (Oct. 20, 2012)


During Morgan’s three-match qualifying run, she defeated players ranked No. 22, 51 and 57. She lost to the No. 2-ranked player in the opening round of the main draw, but rebounded with victories against No. 32 in the first round of consolation action and then downed Stanford’s No. 8-ranked Krista Hardebeck, 6-1, 7-5, in the quarterfinals and TCU’s No. No. 30 Stefanie Tan in the semifinals.



Next on the Schedule:

·         What: The Gators play host to the Bedford Cup, Oct. 10-13, the team’s lone home competition of the fall.

·         Who: Athletes from 10 of 11 different Division I schools are registered to compete in the individual singles and doubles tournament

·         Schools Competing: Bethune-Cookman, Florida, Florida Atlantic, Florida A&M, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida State, North Florida, Stetson, UCF, USF

·         Gators Competing: Olivia Janowicz, Kourtney Keegan, Stefanie Stojic, Belinda Woolcock

·         Format: 2 flights of singles and doubles, to be released Wednesday; there will be consolation action




The Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., serves as the host site for the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships. The national championship, considered the first leg of the collegiate grand slam, began on Saturday, Sept. 28 with pre-qualifying singles and doubles matches, which was hosted by UCLA. Qualifying competition was Oct. 1-2 and main draw action is Oct. 3-Sunday, Oct. 6 at the Riviera Tennis Club.
