Florida scored first off a corner kick collision at 15:07. The ball sent in by Christen Westphal was headed to the near post by Savannah Jordan, but AU’s Kim Spence cleared it off the line back into play. Pamela Begič and Auburn’s goalkeeper Alicen Wright went up to challenge for the ball and Begič just got her head on it to put it in just inside the post. Both players came down hard and left the field under their own power, but did not return to play.

Jillian Graff put in her second goal of the season at 30:09, placing a well-placed shot to the far post from 12 yards. Florida got their third score of the half just over nine minutes later when Lindsey Cooper sent a cross from the Auburn end line. The ball traveled just past the far post where senior Caroline Triglia headed it back to the goal. Auburn’s replacement goal keeper Alyse Scott made a touch on it, but the momentum was too strong and the goal was scored just inside the post.

·         Begič now has four goals, sharing second with Havana Solaun among the 2013 Gators

·         Liz Slattery registered her first collegiate assist on Graff’s goal

·         Triglia now has two goals in 2013, equaling her collegiate season-high set in 2012. Of her six goals as a Gator, today’s was the first off her head.

RECORDS: Florida (9-3-1, 3-2 SEC); Auburn (4-8-1, 0-5 SEC).

THE SERIES: Florida leads the series 15-5-1 all-time.

Just talk about coming out today.  You look like you came out with real focus.

“We talked about, yesterday in our team meeting about communicating better, playing with more team toughness, we have some individual toughness, but looking at that as what it looks like as a team and also being a little bit better at execution and decision making.

“Some of the goals today were really, really nice goals, they were really well executed.  Then in the second half we probably had three or four more in us that were just a bit unlucky, whether it being the post or just a bit off in execution, so I like the way we played overall, I’m happy to get a shut out and get a win at home.” - Florida coach Becky Burleigh

What about Pam Begič’s goal?

“That was a really brave goal that took a lot of courage because she knew she was going to get hammered on that goal. We talked about that before the game started and to see that executed was nice.” – Florida coach Becky Burleigh

How comfortable is this team playing with a lead?

“Well it’s a lot easier in our style of play, but we also have to learn how to come from behind too. I don’t want us to start from behind just to prove that theory, but if we can get ahead and keep it, I think it’s a very difficult team to break down.” - Florida coach Becky Burleigh

On her second goal of the season:

“Lindsey Cooper was out wide and sent a great ball. My run was the back post so it was right to me. I just headed it in the near post.” – senior Caroline Triglia

On the movement of the game today:

“We’ve been working on that a lot at practice, trying to move off of each other, find open gaps and create space for each other. It was paying off today. We did a really good job of that.” – senior Caroline Triglia

On her first collegiate assist:

“Jill came in from the side and I just saw her running through and played it over top. I put a spin on it so she could touch it. She had a great touch to finish it. It feels really good, getting my first assist. It feels good because, with assists, it’s like you are contributing to team. You’re helping out the goal and not just getting it. You’re making it happen. So that’s cool.” – freshman midfielder Liz Slattery

On taking advantage of being subbed into the game:

“Playing with the girls on the team, honestly every sub that goes in, we have so much depth and you can play with everyone on the field and everyone is going to make you look good. It’s a really good feeling. Playing with this team has been the greatest thing for me.” – freshman midfielder Liz Slattery

Florida has now scored three goals in a half three times this season – at Florida International (second half), at Mississippi (first half) and today in the opening half…today was the second solo shutout for Nora Neset Gjųen and the sixth of the season for the Gators.

The Gators play one match next weekend as the team heads to Starkville, Miss., to face Mississippi State (3-9, 0-5 SEC) on Friday, Oct. 11. Match time is set for 8 p.m. ET at the MSU Soccer Field. Mississippi State lost 1-0 at Arkansas on Sunday.

Friday’s match can be heard live on ESPN 850 AM. Audio and stats are available on and streaming video can be seen on HailStateTV.
