University of Florida junior defensive back Loucheiz Purifoy earned the Walter Camp Defensive Player of the Week honor for his performance in the 30-10 win over Arkansas, the Walter Camp Football Foundation announced on Sunday.
Purifoy, a Pensacola, Fla., native, had the best game of his career, highlighted by returning his first career interception for a touchdown that gave Florida a lead which it never relinquished. He also recorded four tackles, including the first sack of his career, three pass breakups and a forced fumble against the Razorbacks. Purifoy was also key in assisting the Gator defense in notching two sacks against an Arkansas offense that was allowing just 0.6 sacks per game.
Next up, the Gators (4-1, 3-0 SEC) travel to Baton Rouge., to take on SEC West Rival LSU (5-1, 3-0 SEC) at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 12. The game will be televised on CBS.
