Pacific Palisades, CA

Brianna Morgan earned a spot in the main draw with Wednesday's win.

The University of Florida’s Brianna Morgan (Beverly Hills, Calif.) won her third-round match of qualifying action and advanced to the main draw of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships held at the Riviera Tennis Center.

The Gator sophomore took down No. 22-ranked and third-seeded Jenny Jullien from St. Mary’s, 6-1, 6-2, to earn one of eight qualifying spots in the main draw of the national tournament that gets underway Thursday.

UF’s Olivia Janowicz (Palm Bay, Fla.) and Belinda Woolcock (Melbourne, Australia) weren’t as fortunate, as Janowicz fell to North Carolina’s Jamie Loeb, 6-3, 6-4, and Woolcock to UCLA’s No. 80 Chanelle Van Nguyen, 6-1, 6-3, in the final round of qualifying.

Woolcock also just missed a trip to her first grand slam main draw in doubles play, where she and Gator teammate Sofie Oyen (Leopoldsburg, Belgium) dropped an 8-4 decision to UNC’s Loeb and Hayley Carter in the second round of qualifying.

Morgan joins Oyen in the singles main draw, where she was slotted against top-seeded and No. 1-ranked Robin Anderson of UCLA in the first round. Oyen drew California’s No. 3-ranked and third-seeded Zsofi Susanyi in her opening-round bout.

The Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., serves as the host site for the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships. The national championship, considered the first leg of the collegiate grand slam, began on Saturday, Sept. 28 with pre-qualifying singles and doubles matches, which was hosted by UCLA. Qualifying competition was Oct. 1-2 and main draw action takes place Thursday, Oct. 3-Sunday, Oct. 6 at the Riviera Tennis Club.

The qualifying rounds are comprised of a singles draw of 64 and a doubles draw of 32. Just as with pre-qualifying, a singles player or doubles tandem must win three consecutive matches to stay alive and move into the main draw. Eight spots in the singles main draw are reserved for qualifiers, while the doubles main draw will feature four teams from qualifying.

·         Sofie Oyen received an automatic berth into the singles main draw

·         Alexandra Cercone, Olivia Janowicz and Brianna Morgan earned a spot in the singles qualifying draw

·         Belinda Woolcock played her way through pre-qualifying and competed in the qualifying draw

·         Oyen & Woolcock were selected for the doubles qualifying draw

Singles semifinalists, doubles finalists and consolation champions will receive automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Nov. 7-10 in Flushing, NY.
