Tuesday October 1, 2013Progressing in the Final Round, No. 5 Gators Fall Short at the Windy City Collegiate Classic

Highland Park, Ill.

Playing their best round of the Windy City Collegiate Classic, the No. 5 Gators improved by nine strokes from round one (300) and three strokes from round two (294) to complete the final round (291) at Northmoor Country Club this afternoon. The Gators finished the event in ninth place, behind five top-25 ranked opponents, out of the 15 teams competing.

Redshirt sophomore Katie Mitchell battled today and shot the only under-par round for the Gators this tournament (70), capping it off with an eagle on the 16th hole. She finished eight-over (221) for the tournament. Junior Sarah Schober remained consistent on the course this week (72-74-73), and made five birdies, four in a row, in the final round of the competition. She claimed the lone top-25 finish for the Gators.

Sophomore Ursa Orehek finished just one-over (72) in the last round of her first tournament of the season while freshman Karolina Vlckova and junior Anna Young both took a step back from their game at the 2013 Cougar Classic, shooting six-over and five-over on the day, respectively.

Head Coach Emily Glaser Says: “The conditions were much tougher today and the team played their best round of the tournament. I think that says a lot about our fight. This week was a huge learning experience for this young team and I am happy with how they are progressing.”
