After a slow first half, the Gators had several chances in the second, including in the 68th minute when a lifted ball from Annie Speese was sent to Savannah Jordan, but she couldn’t get a touch on it before the goalkeeper covered it. The deep cross she set was tapped backwards by Jordan’s foot, but the header by Begic was wide. The final good look came in the 83rd minute when Speese had some space to bring the ball into th box. She dribbled and took a hard shot but it was blocked by a Tiger defender.

QUOTES
On the match result:

“I thought we just got off to a very, very slow start - should have been down more than 1-0 early. Second half, we played terrific. Second half we played exactly the way we play but you can’t wait 30 minutes into a game to get rolling. I think that is a big lesson we will learn from this game. We were not in any type of rhythm early in the game and give credit Missouri for taking us out of that rhythm.

“There were some great, great chances today. Sometimes soccer is a cruel game. That’s just the way it is.” – Florida coach Becky Burleigh

On contributing factors:

“I just think for us it is a preparation issue. We knew exactly what to expect from this team and I just don’t think we were mentally prepared to deal with it. We knew what it was going to be - nothing different than what we talked about pregame. We were unable to get our minds around what we had to do for probably the first 20-25 minutes.” – Florida coach Becky Burleigh

WORTH NOTING
This is the Tigers first win versus a top-10 team since Aug. 26, 2011 (defeated then No. 7 Ohio State 1-0 in Columbia, Mo.)…this was Nora Neset Gjøen first appearance with the Gators since leaving the U.S. on Sept. 17 to join Norway’s Senior National team for a World Cup qualifier versus Belgium (Norway won 4-1 on Wednesday) – she traveled more than 6,380 miles since leaving Oslo on Thursday.
