Florida opened the Mississippi match scoring on its first three shots to put the team up 3-0 after just 16 minutes of play. A cross from Annie Speese into the center of the box ended with Savannah Jordan hitting her 11th goal of the season at 4:32. Then Pamela Begič put in the ball at 13:23 off Jordan’s first collegiate assist. It was Begič’s third goal of the season. Then it was Begič’s turn for an assist, finding sophomore Claire Falknor with space and time in the box. Falknor turned and put it in for her first goal of the season at 15:10.

The Rebels’ scored their only goal of the match in the 28th minute when Bethany Bunker scored off a long throw in.

The final Gator goal came off a scrum in front of the goal. Junior Jillian Graff hit her first goal of the season in the final minute to give UF the final margin as UF won 4-1.

About the Tigers:

This will be the third match versus a top-20 team for Missouri this season, as the Tigers lost 3-2 at then No.17 Portland on Sept. 15 and lost 2-1 to then No. 9 Baylor in College Station, Texas. The Tigers opened SEC play with a 3-1 win at Starkville, Miss., on Sept. 20 and lost 1-0 to Georgia on Friday. Juniors Kaysie Clark and Taylor Grant share MU’s 2013 goal lead with four each. Missouri was 14-7-1 in 2012 and finished fifth in the SEC with an 8-5-0 record. The Tigers earned a 2012 NCAA berth, tying Illinois 1-1 2OT but the Illini advanced on penalty kicks. Florida and Missouri met in 2012 SEC Tournament semifinal round, with the Gators advancing with a 3-0 win.

Preseason Conference Votes:

Florida – Gators are picked to take second in the Southeastern Conference. Texas A&M topped the coaches’ vote for 2013 league title.

Missouri– The Tigers are picked to finish eighth in SEC.

Becky Burleigh Says:

“Sunday’s match is going to be hard. Missouri belies their record. They are always really hard to play against – 100 miles per hour, high pressure – we’ve got to be on top of our game in order to be ready for that.”

Florida is ranked No. 7 on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll.
