GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Basketball fans who can’t wait to take their seats for the 2013-14 Florida team this season have a chance to pick their seats for Gators hoops the day of the UF-Tennessee football game.
They’ll have a chance to upgrade them, too.
UF will host a Select-A-Seat basketball event at the O’Connell Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 21 in advance of the Southeastern Conference football opener between the Gators and Volunteers across the street at Florida Field.
The O’Dome will be set up in its basketball configuration -- complete with court and goals -- and fans can walk the arena and find the best seats available for purchase; season-ticket holders already with seats can swap theirs out for better ones.
Unsold seats will be marked with tape (in the color of the accompanying donation level code provided on a season-ticket map). The seats without tape have been sold.
Fans can purchase seats at the Gate 1 or Gate 2 ticket offices.
“This will give our fans a chance to literally pick and choose among the best seats in the house,” said Alicia Longworth, director of marketing and promotions. “And we have one of the best schedules the team has ever had this year.”
The Gators will play host to Florida State on the eve of their annual football game with the Seminoles, while also welcoming powerhouse Kansas in the Big 12/SEC Challenge, along with league dates against Tennessee, Missouri, Alabama and a the regular-season finale against Kentucky.
After the Select-A-Seat event, the Florida basketball team will be at Verizon Fan Fest outside Gate 2 to sign autographs. The Gators, who won the 2013 SEC championship, will be honored at halftime of the football game.
UF opens the season Nov. 8 with a mid-afternoon tip against North Florida, a game that will be played in the hours before Gator Growl.
