Monday September 9, 2013Seven Gators Selected to Participate in ITA Men's All-American
College tennis resumes in a few weeks and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its selections for the ITA Menís All-American Championships on Friday, as well as preseason rankings for singles and doubles. For the seventh straight year, the University of Tulsa will be the site of the ITA Men's All-American Championships. The tournament kicks off with prequalifying matches starting on Sept. 28.
The Gators, who open the fall season September 20 in Nashville at the SEC Fall Classic, had seven players selected to participate in the yearís first national event.
Senior Stephane Piro earned an automatic berth into the singles main draw, which begins on October 3. Seniors Michael Alford and Florent Diep will play in the singles qualifying draw with a chance to play their way into the main draw.
Sophomore Gordon Watson is an alternate for the qualifying draw, but will play in pre-qualifying singles if no spots are available. Freshmen Maxx Lipman, Elliott Orkin and Joshua Wardell will also play in the pre-qualifying singles draw.
Piro, who ended the 2013 spring season ranked 61st, enters the fall ranked 39th in singles. Diep finished ranked 79th and is now ranked 52nd in the preseason singles rankings.
Lipman and Piro are ranked 42nd in the doubles preseason rankings, Orkin and Watson are ranked 57th and Alford and Diep rank 60th.
