Last Friday:

The Gators’ match Friday was delayed an hour due to weather. When play did begin, the Gators scored quickly. Sophomore Pamela Begić headed in Florida’s first goal at 8:55, marking her second consecutive match with a goal. Florida’s final two scorers - sophomore Lauren Smith and freshman Brooke Sharp – posted the first goals of their collegiate career. The shutout was the second consecutive for Florida.

Oklahoma State

Oklahoma State tied No. 2 Florida State 1-1 2OT Friday in Tallahassee, Fla. Freshman Courtney Dike scored her sixth goal of the season to give the Cowgirls the lead early in the second half. The Seminoles tied the match late in regulation and the contest ended in a tie.

Preseason Conference Votes:

Florida – Gators are picked to take second in the Southeastern Conference. Texas A&M topped the coaches’ vote for 2013 league title.

Oklahoma State – The Cowgirls are picked to finish fourth in Big 12 Conference play in 2013. West Virginia is the Big 12 Conference preseason pick.

Did You Know:

·         Oklahoma State is the second of three consecutive first-time opponents for Florida. Florida met Oklahoma on Friday and plays Minnesota on Sept. 13.

·         Florida’s Savannah Jordan’s six goals through the season’s opening five matches are the most ever by a Gator. Four Gators are second on the list at five goals each, including UF’s all-time leading scorer Abby Wambach in 1999. Also scoring five through five matches were Stephanie Freeman (2004), Sarah Yohe (1999) and Aimee Wagstaff (1995).

·         The six goals is believed to be nation’s fourth-highest individual total (national stats officially begin being posted by NCAA Sept. 9). Sophomore Elise Krieghoff of Cal Poly has 10 goals through four matches. Sunday’s opponent, Oklahoma State, also has a freshman with six goals. Courtney Dike has six goals in four matches for the Cowgirls. Of the nine players with six or more goals this season, four are freshmen.

Becky Burleigh Says:

“I think Oklahoma State is going to be very good and it’s going to be up to us to perform a little bit better in execution, like in our technical passing and receiving.”

Florida is ranked No. 10 on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll.
