Senior Sofie Oyen headlines the Gators in the Preseason National Singles Rankings

All four returning letterwinners from the University of Florida women’s tennis team appeared in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I Women’s Preseason Rankings, released Friday afternoon.


At No. 16, senior Sofie Oyen (Leopoldsburg, Belgium) is the highest-ranked Gator in the individual national singles chart. Senior Alexandra Cercone (Seminole, Fla.) is No. 38, while sophomore Brianna Morgan (Beverly Hills, Calif.) is No. 64 and senior Olivia Janowicz (Palm Bay, Fla.) is No. 75.


While freshman are not eligible for a national singles ranking, the ITA does produce a top-10 list of the best newcomers and Gator rookie Belinda Woolcock (Victoria, Australia) is No. 7 in the country.


Oyen and Woolcock are ranked tied-No. 21 in the ITA National Preseason Doubles Rankings.


Also announced Friday were the selections for the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, held Sept. 28-Oct. 6 in California.




·         Sofie Oyen received an automatic berth into the singles main draw

·         Alexandra Cercone and Brianna Morgan earned a spot in the singles qualifying draw

·         Olivia Janowicz is No. 3 on the qualifying singles draw alternate list (will play pre-qualifying if spot not available)

·         Belinda Woolcock was awarded a pre-qualifying singles draw spot

·         Oyen & Woolcock are No. 5 in the doubles main draw alternate list (will play qualifying if spot not available)

·         Morgan and freshman Kourtney Keegan (Roswell, Ga.) are No. 6 on the doubles qualifying draw alternate list (no prequalifying doubles draw)




·         For the 29th year, the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, CA, will serve as the host site for the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships. The national event is set to begin on Saturday, September 28 with pre-qualifying singles and doubles matches, which will once again be hosted by UCLA. Main draw action is slated for Thursday, October 3-6.

·         Considered the first of the Collegiate Grand Slam events




·         The Gators will play at the Duke Invitational, Sept. 13-15

·         It is an individual singles and doubles tournament with draws

·         Gator participants will be announced next week
