Senior Agata Strausa and freshman Carlos Miranda picked up SEC Weekly Honors following the first week of competition.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Senior Agata Strausa was tabbed the SEC Women’s Runner of the Week, while freshman Carlos Miranda picked up SEC Men’s Freshman Runner of the Week accolades in the first set of SEC Cross Country Weekly Awards, released by the league office Tuesday.

Strausa and Miranda helped lead the Gator men’s and women’s cross country teams to season-opening victories at the Western Carolina Invitational Aug. 30. Strausa was victorious in the women’s two-mile race (10:52.29), while leading a pack of Florida runners that claimed the top five spots at the invite for a perfect 15-point score. On the men’s side, Miranda – in his Gator debut – was a key component of UF’s scoring corps that helped the Orange and Blue to a 28-point team victory in Cullowhee. The Naples, Fla., native scored fifth for UF (15:32.14), while placing 14th overall in the field of 104 athletes.

UF claimed team victories at the Western Carolina Invitational on both sides for the third straight season.
