Florida heads south for its first road action of 2013 when it meets Florida International in Miami on Sunday. FIU is the third intrastate rival the Gators have met this season.

Last Outing:

Florida opened this weekend with a 3-0 loss to No. 3 Florida State in front of 4,279 – the fifth-largest crowd ever at the James G. Pressly Stadium. All of the Seminole scoring came in the opening half, with Dagny Brynjarsdottir scoring her first two goals of the season in a span of just over two minutes. Michaela Hahn pushed the lead to 3-0 with just 49 seconds to halftime.

 

Florida International lost its season-opener 4-2 to Arizona in home action and then claimed a 2-0 road win at Stetson Friday night. The Panthers posted a 13-6-2 record in 2012 and tied for first in the program’s final season in the Sun Belt Conference.

 

Preseason Conference Votes:

Both Florida and Florida International won their conference titles in 2012. FIU shared the 2012 Sun Belt Conference title in its final season in the league.

Florida – Gators are picked to take second in the Southeastern Conference. Texas A&M topped the coaches’ vote for 2013 league title.

FIU – The Panthers are picked to finish fifth in Conference USA play in 2013. Colorado College is the preseason pick to win Conference USA.

Florida is ranked No. 8 on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll.
