Wednesday August 28, 2013Chloe Mann Named Senior CLASS Award® Candidate

Gainesville, Fla.

Senior middle blocker Chloe Mann (Gainesville, Fla.) was one of thirty NCAA® women’s volleyball student-athletes who excel both on and off the court to be selected as candidates for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award® in collegiate volleyball.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Of the 30 candidates, 10 have grade point averages of 3.5 or higher and 19 are American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Americans. Mann is one of six candidates to receive AVCA All-America honors and maintain at least a 3.5 GPA. She is one of two Southeastern Conference athletes on the candidate list, joining Kentucky’s Jessi Greenberg.

Mann had a remarkable junior campaign, topping the Gators with an NCAA-leading .444 hitting percentage, putting down 380 kills on the year. Mann led Florida with 1.15 blocks/set, good for third in the SEC. For her career, the senior middle blocker has 532 kills on a .455 hitting clip and is on track to break Florida’s career hitting percentage record by the end of 2013. She is the reigning SEC Player of the Year and was voted a First Team All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and Volleyball Magazine.

The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2013 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship in December.

The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
