Tuesday August 27, 2013Florida soccer freshman Savannah Jordan is National Player of the Week selection by two outlets

Gainesville, Fla.

Freshman Savannah Jordan is the national player of the week by both the NSCAA and Top Drawer Soccer.

After scoring five goals through the opening two matches of her collegiate career, Florida freshman Savannah Jordan (Fayetteville, Ga.) is the pick for National Player of the Week by both the National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA) and Top Drawer Soccer.

Yesterday, Jordan was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week and today picked up the CollegeSoccer360.com National Freshman of the Week honor.

Two matches into her collegiate career and Jordan now owns five goals Ė the highest goal total for any Gator through a seasonís opening two contests.

In Fridayís season opener versus Florida Gulf Coast, Jordan provided the go-ahead and insurance goals Ė with both coming in the final 10 minutes of the match. She is the first Gator freshman to score twice in a season opener since Aimee Wagstaff in the programís debut match in 1995.

Jordan provided all the scoring in Sundayís 3-1 win versus Oregon State. She now joins Florida All-Americans Andi Sellers (two in 1997) and Abby Wambach (one in 1998) as the only Gators to post a hat-trick as a freshman.

Jordan is the third Gator to pick up the Disney Soccer/NSCAA Player of the Week award for Florida, joining Erika Tymrak (2012/Aug. 29) and McKenzie Barney (2010/Sept. 15). Jordanís accomplishments will be highlighted on Friday, Aug. 30, during the premiere games of the NSCAA College Soccer Special on NSCAATV.com. The College Soccer Special are live game broadcasts of NCAA Division I menís and womenís games from around the country.

The Gators faces its first top-10 team of the season when preseason No. 3 Florida State (2-0, 0-0 ACC) to Pressly Stadium on Friday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. The Seminoles also opened their 2013 season last weekend with a pair of home matches, defeating Oregon State 1-0 on Friday and took a 4-1 win over Auburn on Sunday.

Fridayís match is the first of nine televised Gator regular-season matches and the UF-FSU match airs on SUN Sports (Gainesville/Ocala Cox Cable 48 or 1048). The match can also be heard live on ESPN 850. Audio, stats and video are available on GatorZone.com. The first 1,000 fans Friday will receive a commemorative Florida vs. Florida State t-shirt.
