Summer graduation ceremonies took place on the University of Florida campus this weekend and Jennifer George was one of 17 current and former Gator student-athletes who participated in commencement ceremonies. UF’s summer commencement took place Saturday morning in the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.

 

Six from the Florida football team and two from men’s track & field receive degrees this weekend. Men’s & women’s basketball, women’s golf, gymnastics, softball, men’s & women’s swimming, men’s tennis and women’s track & field will each see one student-athlete graduate this weekend.

 

George was the only senior on the Gator women’s basketball team’s 2012-13 roster … voted by the Southeastern Conference coaches as a 2012 First Team All-SEC performer ... 2013 All-SEC Defensive Team … 2013 All-SEC Second Team by coaches and Honorable Mention by media … 2012 SEC Second Team honoree by media … 2012 WBCA Division I Coaches’ All-America Team Honorable Mention ... voted to 2012 WBCA All-Region 3 Team ... unquestionably the strongest member of the team – with her legs, she moves 225 pounds for a dead lift (2 sets, 9 reps) and 185 pounds for a front squad (2 sets, 10 reps), while using 65 pound dumb bells for a bench press (2 sets, 6 reps) …  her increased toughness in paint was on display during a pickup game on July 18, 2011, when she knocked out teammate Lanita Bartley’s tooth snaring a rebound … made an immediate impact her rookie season, being voted to the 2010 SEC All-Freshman Team by the league’s coaches … gave the Gators a tremendous presence in the paint, as she was a solid rebounder and shot blocker … named SEC Player of the Week for the span of Dec. 19-25, 2011 … earned a spot on the 2012 Gator Holiday Classic All-Tournament Team and the 2011 Courtyard LaGuardia Turkey Classic All-Tournament Team (hosted by LIU in Brooklyn) … originally from Orlando, her family moved to California during the summer of 2010 ... selected by the Indiana Fever in the third round of the 2013 WNBA Draft, the 33rd overall pick ... performed an internship in Orlando for the final requirements need to earn her bachelor’s degree in the Summer of 2013.

 

Records and Notables Upon Graduation

CAREER: UF’s leading scorer in a game 32 times, rebounder in 61 games and assists leader in nine games … 62 double-figure scoring games … six 20-point games … 32 double-figure rebounding games … 28 double-doubles … in the record book ranked No. 1 with 135 games played, No. 17 with 1,257 points, No. 7 with 915 rebounds, No. 4 with 191 blocked shots, tied for No. 8 with 28 double-doubles, No. 10 with 3,181 minutes played, No. 10 with 418 free throws attempted, No. 13 with 171 steals, No. 13 with a 51.4 field goal percentage (511-994) and No. 16 with 511 made field goals … tied for most career postseason games played (12) … one of seven Gators to score 1,000 points and collect 900 rebounds … 21st Gator to score 1,000 career points (109th game)

 

SEASON: tied for ninth-most blocked shots in a season (56 in 2012-13); fourth-most by a Gator senior … 66 steals in 2012-13 ranked as fifth-most by a Gator senior  … 15 double-doubles during 2011-12 tied for the eighth-most in a season … midway through the 2011-12 season compiled a streak of eight consecutive double-doubles, a run that ranked tied as the fourth-longest in UF history … tied for second-most blocks in a season by a Gator sophomore (46) … tied for third-most blocks in a season (36) by a freshman

 

GAME: had one of the most well-rounded debuts in a Gator uniform in program history, as her 21 points tied for the third-most ever (junior Bridget Pettis had 30 at West Virginia on Nov. 24, 1991; freshman Bernice Mosby has 25 vs. Lamar on Nov. 24, 2002; freshman Terry Whitehead had 21 at Virginia on Nov. 21, 1981), as well as tied for the second-most ever by a true freshman; her seven field goals tied for the fourth most, while her field-goal percentage of 77.8 (7-9) was second only to Murriel Page’s 81.8 percent (9-11) effort against Arizona on Nov. 25, 1994; her 11 free throw attempts tied for the most-ever in a Gator debut, while her seven made from the line were the second most and her five offensive rebounds tied for the third-most …tied for second-most blocks in a game (9 vs. Alabama State, Dec. 20, 2010) … tied for second-most blocks in a game by a Gator sophomore (9 vs. Alabama State, Dec. 20, 2010)
