STATESBORO, Ga.

Prissie Walden led UF with two hits and two RBI vs. FAMU.

The University of Florida softball team got by Florida A&M 6-4 despite being out-hit and three errors by each team to open the Georgia Southern Eagle Classic Friday morning at Eagle field.

The Gators (13-5) allowed three runs on four hits and two errors in the top of the seventh. With two outs, FAMU (4-11) threatened to take the lead with runners on second and third. Sophomore Nikki Michael (Phoenix, Ariz./Greenway) came in relief and caught the last batter looking to record her second save. Freshman Amanda Moore (Tuscaloosa, Ala./Hillcrest) improved to 5-2. She allowed four runs (two earned) on eight hits and struck out four.

"We started off bad by making that error that allowed the run in the second, and we never made any adjustments," Coach Karen Johns said. "We need to be more consistent and make those changes so we don't put ourselves in these situations."

UF went ahead 2-1 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. Third baseman Jenn Mossadeghi (Jupiter, Fla./The King's Academy) started it with a two-out single. Freshman shortstop Jenilee Garner (Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville) sent in second baseman Prissie Walden (Jacksonville, Fla./First Coast), who reached on an error, with a double to the left field fence. First baseman Ashley Boone (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge) scored Mossadeghi with a base hit.

The Gators also scored twice in the fourth and fifth frames. Walden drove in both on a single in the fourth for a season-high two RBI. Walden was 2-for-3, tying a season-best hits. In the fifth, freshman right fielder Mylin Prieto (Cooper City, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) drove in one run with a double to left center. Catcher Bree Berger (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) had a sacrifice fly out to right field for the sixth run.

FAMU's Tiya Hines (0-2) took the loss after lasting just two and a third innings. She struck out five.

The Gators will play host Georgia Southern (7-12) at 3 p.m.
