Tuesday July 16, 2013Nine Gator Softball Players on SEC Academic Honor Rolls

Birmingham, Ala.

A total of nine University of Florida softball student-athletes earned recognition from the Southeastern Conference for their success in the classroom to wrap up the 2012-13 academic year. Five Gators were named to the 2013 SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll the first week in July, while four UF freshman softball players made up a portion of the 56 UF freshmen contingent named to the SECís First-Year Academic Honor Roll, released by the league office Monday.

Mondayís announcement, including 56 overall Gator First-Year Academic Honor Roll selections, gives Florida a total of 242 student-athletes who were named to a 2012-13 SEC Academic Honor Roll this past year. Florida placed 186 on the SEC Academic Honor Rolls throughout the school year (46 on fall list, 44 winter, 96 on spring), making UF the only SEC school to place 100 or more student-athletes on the Academic Honor Roll each of the last 16 years.

2012-13 sophomore Alyssa Bache (Clearwater, Fla.), senior Ensley Gammel (Bakersfield, Calif.), senior Kelsey Horton (Valrico, Fla.), sophomore Briana Little (Middleburg, Fla.) and junior ace Hannah Rogers (Lake Wales, Fla.) were all named to the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll for the Orange and Blue.

Freshman first baseman Taylor Schwarz (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) turned in the second-highest GPA of all Gator first-year student-athletes, highlighting UFís four freshmen on the First-Year Academic Honor Roll. Cari Broderick (Jacksonville, Fla.), Kirsti Merritt (Lake Panasoffkee, Fla.) and Aubree Munro (Brea, Calif.) joined Schwarz in representing the Gators on the prestigious freshman list.
