Florida head coach Billy Donovan will lead the USA Basketball U19 team, including Gator guard Michael Frazier II (Tampa, Fla.), into FIBA World Championships action beginning Thursday in Prague, Czech Republic. The USA squad will open play in the 16-country event against the Ivory Coast at 2:15 p.m. Eastern on Thursday at the O2 Prague Arena.

The USA will compete as part of Group D and will face China on Friday and Russia on Saturday, both also at 2:15 p.m. Eastern at the O2 Prague Arena.

The USA U19 team began training camp under Donovan’s direction with 26 players on June 14 in Colorado Springs, Colo., in order to establish its 12-man roster. After setting the roster, the team trained in Washington, D.C., at the Washington Wizards’ facility June 19-23 before travelling to Prague. The USA scrimmaged host Czech Republic on Monday, earning a 97-51 win as Frazier co-led the American squad with 13 points.

“Overall I thought our guys played pretty well,” Donovan told usabasketball.com after that scrimmage. “I thought we had good energy, I thought we had some different lineups out there that were effective. I was happy that our guys are trying at least to get over the jet lag and understand that the competition is starting here shortly and just trying to get adjusted and acclimated to this time.”

After all teams have played three round-robin games within their respective groups in the preliminary round, the top three teams from each of the groups will advance to a second group stage consisting of two six-team groups. In the second round-robin stage, each team will face the three teams within its group that it has not already played. The top four teams from each of the two groups will advance into the quarterfinals where knockout rounds begin.
