Wednesday June 12, 2013Gators Wrap Up Another Stellar Season in 2012-13

Gainesville, Fla.

A crowd of 1,033 fans turned out to watch the regular-season matchup against Stanford on Feb. 28, 2013.

Florida nearly overcame a 3-0 deficit but couldn’t complete what would have been a stunning rally and its bid to win a third consecutive NCAA title came to end with a 4-3 loss to Stanford in the semifinals of the NCAA Championships in another thrilling chapter in the match-ups on the national stage against the Cardinal, who went on to win the crown.

Instead, the Gators had their 2012-13 season come to a close in what was another stellar campaign that produced a 26-3 overall record, a three-way share of the 2013 Southeastern Conference regular-season championship and the SEC Tournament title.

This was the fourth straight year and the 23rd time in the last 27 years Florida reached at least the semifinals of the NCAA Championships.

The Gators received the No. 1 overall seed in the 2013 NCAA Championships and were awarded one of 16 host sites for the first and second rounds of the event.

The season also marked the collegiate finale for seniors Lauren Embree and Caroline Hitimana, who helped the Gators win a pair of NCAA Championships (2011 & 2012), four SEC regular-season titles and four SEC Tournament crowns.
