Monday June 10, 2013Kitty Cullen and Sam Farrell Sign with Team STX
Former University of Florida lacrosse players Kitty Cullen (Rockville, Md.) and Sam Farrell (Millersville, Md.) have signed with Team STX to continue their lacrosse careers.
The two Gator standouts join the first ever women’s post-collegiate team as part of the current 16-player roster. Team STX looks to change the landscape of post-collegiate women’s lacrosse, giving players an opportunity to compete at the highest levels in the women’s lacrosse circuit. In addition, Team STX will contribute to the company’s grassroots efforts to expand the reach of the game.
Cullen and Farrell were both founding members of the Florida lacrosse team that went 63-18 in their four year collegiate careers. Cullen, a two time ALC Player of the Year and three-time Tewaaraton Award finalist, led the team in scoring for the past three seasons, tallied 261 career points and became the first player to ever record 200 goals. In addition, she was UF’s only three time IWLCA All-American selection and earned a total of 10 All-American awards in her career.
Farrell was the Gators top defender, recording a single season-high 24 caused turnovers this season. The 2013 ALC Defender of the Year, Farrell started 80 games in her career while posting a program-high 59 caused turnovers, 113 ground balls and 59 draw controls. She led the Florida defense that finished second in the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 6.90 goals per game. She was also a five-time All-American.
They join a talented lineup of collegiate standouts - Taylor Thorton (Northwestern), Alyssa Kildare (Johns Hopkins), Lauren Schmidt (Stanford), Josie Owen (Virginia), Grace Gavin (Loyola-Maryland), Maggie Tamasitis (Notre Dame), Julie Gardner (Virginia), Clayton Crum (Texas Women’s), Mary Flowers (Richmond), Cacki Helmer (Cornell), Dana Cahill (Penn State), Brittany Brigandi (LeMoyne), Lillie Lingo (North Carolina), and Lauren Benner (Denver) - to make up Team STX.
Team STX will start its inaugural season at the 41st Vail Lacrosse Shootout in Vail, Colo. from July 4-7th. In the first post-collegiate women’s lacrosse tournament of the summer, Team STX will showcase its talent and compete with players from around the country. STX will identify and announce the rest of its inaugural team this summer.
