Wednesday June 5, 2013Three UF Players Named to Phil Steele's 2013 Preseason All-American Teams

Gainesville, Fla.

Three University of Florida football players were named to Phil Steele’s 2013 Preseason All-American Teams, released on Wednesday, June 5. Junior punter Kyle Christy was named a first team All-American, senior defensive lineman Dominique Easley was honored on the third team, and junior cornerback Loucheiz Purifoy garnered fourth team accolades.

A 2012 Ray Guy Award finalist, Christy has emerged as one of the nation’s top punters in collegiate football. Last season, he was First Team All-SEC selection by the AP and coaches and was a Walter Camp Second Team All-American. He rated fifth in the country in punting average and first in the SEC. Christy had a breakout performance against South Carolina, establishing a single-game SEC and school record with a 54.3 yards per punt average. He was named the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance against the Gamecocks.

Easley played in and started 11 games in 2012. He collected 26 tackles on the season, including a team-best 4.0 sacks. Against Louisville in the 2013 Allstate Sugar Bowl, Easley recorded five tackles, 3.5 of which were tackles for a loss.

One of the Gators’ fastest players on the field, Purifoy played in all 13 games for the University of Florida last season. He forced three fumbles and blocked two kicks on special teams. In addition, Purifoy was fourth on the team with 51 tackles and added five pass breakups. Against Louisiana, he blocked a punt in the final seconds that was recovered and returned for a touchdown by Jelani Jenkins to seal the UF victory. Against South Carolina, he started the game in a big way, causing a fumble on the first play from scrimmage to set up a Florida touchdown.
