Sunday May 26, 2013Training Exercise Operation Urgent Impact Taking Place Thursday
Today, Thursday, May 30, 2013, from 8:00 a.m. through 12:00 p.m., the University of Florida Police Department along with the numerous other agencies will conduct a full-scale exercise (FSE) designed to establish a simulated real world training exercise and learning environment for players to exercise emergency mass casualty response plans, policies, and procedures. The exercise will take place at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
The purpose of this exercise, referred to as Operation Urgent Impact, is to evaluate the University of Florida’s and the University Athletic Association’s mass casualty plans in support of large scale medical operations within hospitals and other public health agencies in Alachua County and the City of Gainesville. The exercise is also designed to evaluate the University of Florida’s public safety operations staffs’ ability to coordinate with multiple internal and external stakeholders during a major venue incident and will involve actors with simulated injuries. The University of Florida remains committed to the safety of the campus community and participation in this exercise is an important component in maintaining and improving University emergency operations.
During Operation Urgent Impact, the following areas of campus will be directly impacted:
Gale Lemerand Drive
Traffic closure from the O’Connell Center parking lot entrance to Stadium Road from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. will prevent southbound traffic turning from University Avenue to travel beyond the O’Connell Center parking lot entrance.
Access to the O’Connell Center parking lot from Gale Lemerand Drive will remain open.
Travel on Gale Lemerand Drive south of Stadium Road will not be impacted.
Garage 7 (O’Connell Center)
Standard parking in the O’Connell Center lot will not be disrupted.
Ben Hill Griffin Stadium Access
Pedestrian access to the ground level of the Stadium concourse between Gates 1-18 will be closed from 7 a.m. to noon.
Pedestrian traffic outside the southwest corner of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium and the southeast corner of the O’Connell Center will be limited between 8 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
All University Athletic Association Administrative offices, University of Florida offices in Stadium West, Gator Ticket Office, as well as the Heavener Football Complex main entrance will remain accessible.
