Sophomore Camilla Hedberg (Sitges, Spain) continued to rack up the honors in her young collegiate career today, while senior Mia Piccio (Bacolod City, Philippines) finished her career with an end of the year honor as well. Hedberg was awarded a WGCA All-America Honorable Mention for the second-straight year and Piccio was named to the WGCA Central All-Region Team.

Hedberg, who had been Florida’s number one player for much of the year, is fresh off her second full season with the Gators and was already named first team All-SEC last month. She can now add another all-america honorable mention to her accolades giving her two honorable mentions in as many years to go along with being named a GolfWeek Third Team All-American last year.

The Spaniard had a banner year for UF this season, winning three tournaments and racking up the best stroke average (73.1) on the team, which also ties for the second-lowest season stroke average ever compiled by a Florida player. For a time during the fall season, Hedberg was also the top-ranked player in the nation according to GolfStat.com and GolfWeek.com. During her first tournament victory at the Cougar Classic, which was also her first collegiate win, Hedberg carded a second-round, 66, for a career-best and also tied for the lowest round ever recorded by a Gator.

Hedberg’s two fall season wins (Cougar Classic, Betsy Rawls Invitational) also count for two of the lowest tournament totals ever recorded in UF history. Her 203 at the Cougar Classic holds the record by a five-stroke margin, just inching out her 208 at the Betsy Rawls Invite from the same season. In just her first two years, Hedberg holds three of the top tournament scores in Florida’s history. She also is one of 10 Florida golfers all-time to have at least three tournament wins in their career and only the fifth to have three wins in one season.

For Piccio, this is her first All-Region honor of her career to go with two All-SEC Second Team honors earned throughout her four years as a Gator. The all-region announcement is fresh on the heels of her second-best appearance in an NCAA Championship, where she carded the lowest tournament total (298) for the Gator team and finished tied for 37th.  Piccio was also a driving force in sending Florida to its third-straight NCAA Championship appearance and 24th in school history. At the 2013 NCAA Central Regional, the senior carded two rounds of 69 as part of a two-under (214) tournament scores to finish in seventh place and help the Gators finish in fourth overall, sending them to Athens, Ga., for the final tournament of the year. Piccio finished the year with the third-best stroke average on the team (73.9), which is also good for seventh-lowest in a season in Gator history.

The Philippines native also notched her first collegiate individual victory this season as she claimed the title of the Lady Bulldog Individual Championship with a one-round, 69, her lowest of the season and tied for the lowest round of her career. With her victory, Piccio became the third different Gator golfer to win at least one tournament this year. In 12 tournaments this year, Piccio had four top-ten finishes with five top-25 finishes, good for tops on the team.
