Wednesday May 22, 2013McCumber Named to SEC Community Service Team
For third time in his career at the University of Florida, senior Tyler McCumber (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) was named to the SEC Community Service Team, the Southeastern Conference announced today. The SEC names a community service team for each of its sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to the community through service efforts.
In his time off the course, McCumber has volunteered with the Miracle on Main Street and J.J. Finley Elementary After-School programs. With the Miracle on Main Street, McCumber helped collect presents donated from the local community, helping more than 500 families during the holiday season. At J.J. Finley Elementary, McCumber aided students with their homework and played sports with them.
On the course, McCumber is one of the Gators’ top players. He was a 2013 All-SEC First Team selection and leads the team in birdies (90), eagles (4), rounds at or under par (14), scoring differential (2.38), stroke average (72.38), top-five finishes (3), and tournaments at or under par (3). McCumber has been playing some of his best golf of the season in the 2013 postseason. He finished in third place at the SEC Championship and NCAA South Regional.
The University of Florida men’s golf team is back in action on Tuesday, May 28 when they begin the 2013 NCAA Championships.
