Wednesday May 22, 2013Frazier Accepts Invitation to USA Basketball's U19 World Championships Training Camp

Gainesville, Fla.

Rising sophomore Michael Frazier II (Tampa, Fla.) has accepted an invitation to USA Basketball’s training camp for the 2013 U19 FIBA World Championships. The USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Team Committee issued the player invitations, and the team will be coached by UF head coach Billy Donovan.

Frazier is one of 24 players scheduled to compete for 12 roster spots during the June 14-19 training camp at the U.S. Olympic Training Center (USOTC) in Colorado Springs, Colo. Finalists for the roster spots will be announced on June 16, with the official 12-man roster to be set in the following days. The tournament will be held June 27 through July 7 in Prague, Czech Republic.

“It’s an honor to have this opportunity with USA Basketball,” Frazier said. “I’m really looking forward to competing with some of the best players in the country and trying to earn a place on the team.”

“I’m excited for Michael to be invited,” Donovan said. “USA Basketball is always looking for good outside shooting, and he certainly provides that.”

Frazier earned SEC All-Freshman Team honors last season as part of the Gators’ regular rotation, averaging 5.6 points and 3.1 rebounds with a .468 3-point field goal percentage in 36 games with one start (18.0 minutes per game).

Donovan returns to USA Basketball as head coach for the U19 FIBA Word Championships after leading last summer’s U18 team to a gold medal at the FIBA Americas. He will once again be assisted by former Gator assistant and current VCU head coach Shaka Smart, while Virginia’s Tony Bennett will serve as the other assistant coach.

Frazier hopes to give UF a player on the USA’s U19 team for the second straight World Championships, as Patric Young (Jacksonville, Fla.) competed in the 2011 event. The 2011 team also featured Donovan as a training camp court coach, while Scottie Wilbekin (Gainesville, Fla.) was on the training camp roster.
