Tuesday May 21, 2013Singles and Doubles Draws Announced for 2013 NCAA Championships
The draws have been announced for the 2013 NCAA Individual Championships, held May 22-27, and the Florida men’s tennis team has four players among the participants. Junior Stephane Piro (Marseille, France) will compete in the singles draw and also pair with senior Bob van Overbeek (Boca Raton, Fla.) in the doubles draw. Senior Billy Federhofer (North Miami, Fla.) and redshirt freshman Gordon Watson (Naples, Fla.) will also compete in the doubles draw.
The singles and doubles tournaments are hosted by the University of Illinois at the Atkins Tennis Center.
In first-round singles action on Wednesday, May 22, Piro will face Washington’s Kyle McMorrow starting at 9 a.m. The Gators lost to Washington 4-1 earlier this season but the two players did not face each other.
In the first round of doubles action on Thursday, 25th-ranked Piro and van Overbeek will play Pepperdine’s Francis Alcantara and Finn Tearney. Pepperdine beat Florida 4-1 back in February at the ITA National Indoors, but Piro and van Overbeek did not face the Waves’ duo of Alcantara and Tearney.
Federhofer and Watson, currently ranked 31st nationally, will play Texas’ duo of Chris Camillone and David Holiner in the first round of the doubles draw.
Federhofer and van Overbeek will be making their second appearance at the individual championships, while Piro and Watson are playing for the first time in the individual championships.
