Florida’s Alexandra Cercone (Seminole, Fla.), Lauren Embree (Marco Island, Fla.) and Sofie Oyen (Leopoldsburg, Belgium) were selected to compete in the 2013 NCAA Division I Singles Championships, the NCAA Subcommittee announced Wednesday, while the Gator tandem of Embree and Oyen will participate in NCAA Doubles Championships.

 

The 64-player singles draw and the 32-team doubles draw will be played the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex/Atkins Tennis Center in Urbana, Ill., on six consecutive days - May 22-27 - immediately following the NCAA Team Championship (May 17-21). The University of Illinois will serve as host.

 

The complete draw for both events will be unveiled on May 21.

 

Embree, who was selected as the No. 1 overall seed in the singles tournament, is the Southeastern Conference’s singles automatic qualifier will be competing in the NCAA Singles Championships for the fourth time in her career and the third time in the doubles event. She has compiled a 23-1 overall singles record this season and sports an 18-match win streak entering the NCAA Team Championships. Embree captured the 2012 Riviera/ITA All-American Singles Championships, becoming the 20th different Gator to win a collegiate Grand Slam title.

 

Embree pairs with Oyen on the doubles court for a 13-4 overall record this season and a 23-5 career mark together. They are coming off a thrilling 9-8 (2) win in the SEC Tournament final against Georgia’s top-ranked and No. 1-seeded team of Kate Fuller and Silvia Garcia.

 

Oyen is 28-6 on the singles court this season. She earned the ITA’s No. 1-singles ranking in January she capped a tremendous Fall, when she received an at-large berth into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships and proved she was worthy of it as she advanced to the semifinals of the national event. Oyen, a junior, will be making her second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Singles Championships.

 

Cercone has compiled a 25-7 overall singles record this season and sports an 11-match winning streak entering the NCAA Team Championships. Cercone will be competing in the NCAA Singles Championships for the second time in her career, also earning a spot in the national event her freshman season.

 

According to the NCAA: All matches – including doubles - shall be the best of three sets, opposed to the eight-game pro-set played in doubles dual matches. Regular scoring and a 12-point tiebreaker at six games all will be used for all matches.

 

Automatic qualification into the Division I singles championships is awarded to any conference with one or more eligible singles players ranked in the ITA Top 125 for eligible/entered singles players. For conferences with more than one singles player within the ITA Top 125 eligible/entered singles players, the subcommittee applies the NCAA selection criteria to determine which student-athlete is the automatic qualifier from those conferences. All singles players must have a minimum of 13 completed singles matches, with six matches in the spring, in order to be selected as an automatic qualifier or an at-large selection.

 

Automatic qualification into the Division I doubles championships is awarded to any conference with one or more eligible doubles teams ranked in the ITA Top 60 for eligible/entered doubles teams. For conferences with more than one doubles team within the ITA Top 60 eligible/entered doubles teams, the subcommittee applies the NCAA selection criteria to determine which doubles team is the automatic qualifier from those conferences. All doubles teams must have a minimum of 10 completed doubles matches, with five matches in the spring, in order to be selected as an automatic qualifier or an at-large selection.
