Gainesville, FL

Jenn Mossadeghi hit a three-run homer vs. McNeese State.

The University of Florida softball team opened its first road trip with a 4-0 shutout vs. McNeese State to win its fourth straight game Friday morning in No. 2 Arizona's Wildcat Classic at Hellenbrand Stadium.

The Gators improved to 10-3, while McNeese State fell to 5-6 after losing 4-3 to Southern Utah in the tournament opener.

Sophomore third baseman Jenn Mossadeghi (Jupiter, Fla./.The King's Academy) knocked out a three-run homer in the second inning. Her shot to left field was the second of her career and the second for UF this year. McNeese allowed the other two runners on an error and a fielder's choice. Mossadeghi finished 2-for-4.

UF got great production from its senior class. Catcher Emily Marino (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) was 3-for-4 with an RBI, which scored UF's fourth run in the third inning. First baseman Ashley Boone (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge) went 2-for-4. As a team, UF combined for 10 hits. It was the fourth straight game UF scattered 10 or more hits.

"We were certainly happy with our offense," Coach Karen Johns said. "And, our defense stepped up to the challenge we gave them…to have an error-free game. The double play was icing on the cake for us today."

The Gators were perfect defensively for the first time in three games and turned their seventh double play this season.

Freshman Amanda Moore (Tuscaloosa, Ala./Hillcrest) improved to 4-1. Moore allowed four hits and a walk, and struck out seven in her second complete game. McNeese's Ashleigh Ivey (2-5) took her second loss of the day. Three of UF's runs were earned, and she walked two and fanned six.
