The second installment of The Tim Walton Show, a special three-show series highlighting the 2013 Gator softball program, will kick off Monday night from 6-7 p.m. at Ballyhoo Grill in Gainesville on 105 The Game, the home of Florida softball.
Florida softball head coach Tim Walton will join Adam Schick, Gator soccer, women’s basketball and softball play-by-play commentator and co-host of The Midday Tailgate on 105 The Game, to talk softball as the Gators head into their final regular-season series May 3-5 at South Carolina.
Gator fans are able to attend the show live at Ballyhoo and ask questions on air. Fans can also call 352-372-3700 to ask questions to Coach Walton during the broadcast.
This past weekend, the No. 2/3 Florida Softball squad won its seventh league series of the year, improving to 11-4 (.733) against top-25 competition by clinching its second-to-last conference series of the season with Saturday (5-2) and Sunday (5-0) wins against the No. 23 Georgia Bulldogs after UGA took the series opener, 3-2. UF improved to 47-6 overall, 16-5 in SEC play and celebrated its two seniors in a pregame ceremony Saturday before Sunday’s home and series finale.
Tennessee (15-4, .789), Florida (16-5, .762) and LSU (15-6, .714) round out the top three institutions in the SEC standings heading into the final regular-season weekend May 3-5, with both SEC Tournament seeding and the regular-season title up for grabs. The No. 3/2 Lady Vols will visit No. 11 Missouri next weekend and No. 12 LSU will head to Athens to finish up conference play at No. 23 Georgia.
The Gators will wrap up the 2013 regular-season slate at South Carolina next weekend in Columbia. The Orange and Blue hold the all-time advantage in the history of the series, 36-19.
Following the weekend set with the Gamecocks, UF will then head back to Lexington, Ky., for the 2013 SEC Tournament May 8-11, hosted this year by Kentucky. The complete 2013 SEC Tournament will once again air on ESPNU, with the Championship Game slated to be broadcast on ESPN2.
Florida has three SEC Championships (1998, 2008, 2009) and has been a top-five national seed in the NCAA Tournament the past five years.
