Former University of Florida linebacker Jelani Jenkins was selected by the Miami Dolphins with the ninth pick of the fourth round in the 2013 NFL Draft. Jenkins is the fifth Gator to be selected in this year’s draft, the most picks Florida has had in the NFL Draft since 2010.
Jenkins is the second linebacker from last year’s team taken in this year’s draft (Jon Bostic). In addition, this marks the first time since 1999 that two Gators were selected in the same draft.
The Olney, Md. native declared for the NFL Draft after his redshirt junior season at the University of Florida. He was the fourth junior from Florida to be drafted in the first four rounds of the NFL Draft, second most in school history. Five were selected in the 2010 draft.
