Tuesday April 23, 2013Florida Track and Field's Brewer and Hall Garner SEC Weekly Honors
Florida’s Ciarra Brewer (Union City, Calif.) and Arman Hall (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) have been honored by the Southeastern Conference as the duo respectively garnered SEC Co-Women’s Field Athlete of the Week and SEC Men’s Freshman of the Week, the league offices in Birmingham, Ala. announced Tuesday.
Brewer captured the women’s triple jump title at the Tom Jones Memorial Classic, leaping to a season-best mark of 13.28m/43-7. The 2012 SEC Champion in the event, Brewer ranks second in the SEC and sixth in the NCAA this season. She is one of only eight athletes nationally to jump better than 43 feet in the women’s triple jump this season.
Hall ran a wind-legal 20.73 in the men’s 200 meters for a new PR in the event, blowing away 15 professionals in the field. His time ranks in the top-15 nationally (he ran a wind-aided 20.71 at the Pepsi Florida Relays. Hall is the fastest SEC freshman in the event and the second-fastest freshman in the nation.
The Gators have had 10 SEC weekly honors this season and this is Hall’s second SEC rookie honor of 2013. He was also the SEC Men’s Co-Freshman of the Week after his performance indoors at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational.
Next up for the Orange and Blue is the final weekend of the regular season, as the Gators travel to Fayetteville, Ark. for the Arkansas Spring Invitational, April 26-27, and the Payton Jordan Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. on April 28.
