Florida’s Marija Vucenovic (Sremska Mitrovica, Serbia) has been honored by the Southeastern Conference as the SEC Women’s Freshman of the Week, the league offices in Birmingham, Ala. announced Tuesday.
Vucenovic won the first Florida title of the 86th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, presented by State Farm. In just her first collegiate meet, Vucenovic threw a mark of 52.47m/172-2 in the women’s javelin to take home the Texas Relays title. Her mark goes down as third all-time in Florida program history and is second in the collegiate ranks this year. The freshman currently leads the SEC in the women’s javelin so far this season.
The Gators have had six SEC honors this season, as Marquis Dendy (Middletown, Del.), Dedric Dukes (Miami, Fla.) and Arman Hall (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) were all recognized in the indoor season. Dukes and Hall were also members of the world-leading indoor men’s 4x400-meter relay who were named SEC Men’s Indoor Runner of the Week after the Razorback Invitational (3:05.93). Junior Cory McGee (Pass Christian, Miss.) was named the SEC Co-Women’s Runner of the Week for her performance at the Crimson Tide Indoor Opener earlier in the season.
Next up for the Gators is the 69th Annual Pepsi Florida Relays. Accepted entries are now available on GatorZone. For more information, including schedule, history and ticket information, go to the official Florida Relays homepage at http://www.gatorzone.com/trackfield/floridarelays/.
