Florida improved to 25-2 overall this season, 2-1 in league play, after going 3-1 in the last week of play with a win over No. 1/2 Alabama and a series win at Auburn to kick off the SEC portion of the schedule. Florida jumped from No. 4 to No. 3 in this week’s USA Today/NFCA Top 25 and ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 polls.

The Gators were led at the plate last week by SEC Player of the Week Briana Little (Middleburg, Fla.). The sophomore outfielder batted .667 (6-for-9) with a double, three-run bomb, four RBI, two walks and three hit-by-pitches, while also registering a .786 on-base mark, a 1.111 slugging percentage and one stolen base through the four-game span. Little had two hits against Alabama and two each in the first two games of the series at Auburn to contribute to a career-best five-game hit streak. Little’s ability to get on base has helped produce runs for UF, and her five runs scored so far in SEC play rank first in the conference, while her three hit-by-pitches, 11 overall, also check in first in the league.

Junior ace Hannah Rogers (Lake Wales, Fla.) earned all three decisions for UF in the circle this season, as the righty went 3-1 and is now 13-2 overall on the season with a 1.22 ERA. Rogers ranks second in the SEC win wins, and fifth in the country. To see where the Gators rank as a team and individually in the country, check out the pregame notes.

Sophomore dual threat pitcher and hitter Lauren Haeger (Peoria, Ariz.) enters this weekend’s series riding a 24-game reached-base streak and the righty ranks third in the conference in RBI (31).

No. 3 Florida (25-2, 2-1 SEC) and No. 6/7 Tennessee (22-4, 2-1 SEC) met four times last season, as UF took the regular-season series in Knoxville, 2-1, while also defeating Tennessee in the SEC Tournament Semifinal to advance to UF’s fifth-ever SEC Tournament Championship Game. UF’s win over Tennessee in the 2012 SEC Tournament was a notable one: UF Head Coach Tim Walton’s 500th career victory.

OF NOTE: Friday’s game against Tennessee will be Walton’s 500th game coaching at Florida, as the eighth-year head coach is 404-95 (.809) during his tenure at the helm of the Gators program.

SCOUTING TENNESSEE

UT opens the league series with the Gators in Gainesville at 22-4 overall this season, 2-1 in league play after taking the series against No. 1/2 Alabama last weekend as the two squads opened SEC play in Knoxville. The Lady Vols also topped Winthrop in mid-week action Tuesday with an 8-0 run-rule at home.

Senior Raven Chavanne leads Tennessee at the plate with a .443 clip, 35 hits, two doubles, two homers and is 22-22 on the base paths for the Vols. Five other Tennessee players are batting over .300 on the season thus far, highlighted by sophomore Cheyanne Tarango and junior Madison Shipman, who each own 28 RBI for Tennessee - Tarango with a team-best six homers and Shipman with a best eight doubles and five HR.

In the circle, the Renfroe duo has tossed a bulk of the innings for Tennessee, Ivy with a 0.81 ERA and 60 strikeouts through 60.2 innings pitched and Ellen with a 1.15 ERA and 75 Ks through 61.0 innings pitched. Both Tarango (1.18 ERA) and freshman Erin Gabriel (3.39 ERA) have tossed 20+ innings for UT as well. As a staff, the Vols are holding opponents to a .178 batting clip, while boasting a 1.31 ERA combined.
