Sophomore midfielder Shannon Gilroy (Northport, N.Y.) has been named the American Lacrosse Conference Offensive Player of the Week, announced by the league on Tuesday.
Gilroy helped lead the No. 2 Gators to two wins last week over No. 9 Loyola and No. 13 Dartmouth. Gilroy scored eight goals, going 8-for-11 on shots for the week, recording a .727 shots percentage and .818 shots on goal percentage. She helped lead an offense who outscored its opponent 30-16 while also recorded three draw controls, two ground balls and three caused turnovers. The sophomore midfielder led the Gators against No. 13 Dartmouth as she scored five goals on six shots, and went 3-for-5 against No. 9 Loyola.
Gilroy, who has started every game for the Gators this season, also helped her team climb out of their largest deficit of the season early on against the Big Green, recording the first goal of the game for UF and recording the tying goal to help her team take a lead for good.
On the season, Gilroy leads the Orange and Blue in goals (27) and draw controls (25) while ranking second in points (28). In the national rankings, she comes in 16th in points and 21st in goals per game (3.00). This is the league-leading sixth ALC Player of the week award for UF this season and first offensive player of the week nod.
Florida is back in action today as it hosts Lehigh in a non-conference matchup at Donald R. Dizney Stadium. Opening draw is set for 6:30 p.m.
