Monday March 11, 2013No. 2 Florida Lacrosse Set To Face Lehigh on Tuesday

Gainesville, Fla.

The No. 2 Florida lacrosse team returns home to host Lehigh in non-conference action at Donald R. Dizney Stadium Tuesday evening. Opening draw is set for 6:30 p.m.

 

UF is in the midst of a nine-game win streak to start the 2013 season, and picked up wins over No. 9 Loyola and No. 13 Dartmouth last week.  The Gators defeated the Greyhounds 16-7 backed by five goals from senior attack Kitty Cullen (Rockville, Md.) while sophomore attack Shannon Gilroy (Northport, N.Y.) picked up the tab against Dartmouth, scoring five goals as well. Cullen leads the Gators with 31 points (24 goals, seven assists) and Gilroy with 28 points (27 goals, one assists) and has recorded a team-high 26 draw controls.

Dollar Dog Night – Every Tuesday the concessions stands will serve dollar hot dogs until the start of the game.

 

Junior Gator Announcer - One lucky fan, 12 and under, will get the chance to announce opening draw for the game.

 

Campus USA Lacrosse Long Toss Contest4 teams of two (2) will to compete to see who can be the last team standing.  They all will stand close together and toss the lacrosse ball, after each toss the contestants will take a step back – if the ball hits the ground that team is out.

 

Florida Gators Name that Tune – :10 of two different songs will be played at halftime, the first fan to make it to the marketing table with the correct answer will be the night’s winner.

 

 

 

 

 

Senior goalie Mikey Meagher (Liverpool, N.Y.) has recorded 50 saves with a .510 save percentage on the season.  The Gators defense is allowing just 6.16 goals per game backed by Meagher and senior defenders Sam Farrell (Millersville, Md.), Emily Dohony (Parkton, Md.) and Kayla Stolins (Glen Arm, Md.). The trio has combined for 41 ground balls, 34 draw controls and 20 caused turnovers.

 

The Gators also remained at No. 2 in this week’s ILWomen.com/deBeer media poll, coming in the last three weeks at the same spot.  Overall, the first nine spots in the poll were unchanged from last week.

 

Lehigh comes into Tuesday’s matchup having lost its last two games to Delaware and Patriot League rival Navy to compile an overall 2-3 record.  The two teams have previously met on March 5, 2011 where the then-No. 14 Gators defeated the Mountain Hawks, 15-10, at Dizney Stadium.

 

They are led by sophomore attack Carli Sukonik who has 12 points on 11 goals and an assist with senior midfielder Julie McBrien adding 11 goals for the Mountain Hawks. Junior goalie Alex Fitzpatrick sees the majority of time in the cage with 37 saves and a .402 save percentage on the year. At the helm of the program is head coach Jill Redfern, who is in her fourth year at Lehigh.
