Saturday March 9, 2013Crouch Leads UF Men's Golf on Second Day in Las Vegas

Las Vegas, Nev.

Freshman A.J. Crouch (Jacksonville, Fla.) led the eighth-ranked University of Florida men’s golf team on the second day of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters on Saturday, March 9 at the Southern Highlands Golf Course in Las Vegas, Nev. As a team, the Gators recorded a 304 (+16), which has the team tied for 11th place after two rounds.

After posting an opening round-73, Crouch registered his second straight one-over par of the tournament. He recorded four birdies against three birdies and one double-bogey at the par-72, 7,510 yard course. The rookie is two-over par for the event and is tied for 18th place going into tomorrow’s final round.

“Thankfully, A.J. is playing solidly,” commented head coach Buddy Alexander.

Senior Tyler McCumber (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) was the Gators’ second-lowest scorer for the second round. After the first 15 holes, McCumber was four-over par. He tallied two birdies over the final three holes to finish two-over par. The Ponte Vedra, Fla. native is three-over par after two rounds and is tied for 23rd place.

Senior T.J. Vogel (Cooper City, Fla.) finished the second round in 78 strokes. He is nine-over par after the first two rounds.

Sophomores J.D. Tomlinson (Gainesville, Fla.) and Eric Banks (Truro, Canada) completed the Gators’ lineup. The second-year golfers each scored a 79 (+7) for their second round of the event. Banks is tied for 44th place.

“Playing against such a great field shows you how much you need to improve on and what your weaknesses are,” Alexander stated. “It is tough, but hopefully we can improve tomorrow.”

The Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters will come to a close tomorrow with the third and final round. Play is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. tomorrow morning. Live scoring will be available on Golfstat.com.
