Sunday March 3, 2013Gators Add More Provisional Times on Final Day of Last Chance Meet

Gainesville, Fla.

Florida’s swimming and diving team added several more provisional NCAA marks on the final day of the Bulldog Last Chance Meet. 

Freshman Sierra Kuhn (Verona, Wis.) recorded a NCAA “B” of 1:58.77 in the women’s 200 back. For the men, Colin Hamilton (Jacksonville, Fla.) won the 200 back with his season-best and NCAA “B” time of 1:44.61. Sophomore Harrison Curley (Winter Park, Fla.) swam his season-best time of 1:46.00 in the prelims, sophomore Austin Ringquist (Hillsboro, Ore.) had a season-best 1:46.60 and freshman Justin Kaisrlik (Clermont, Fla.) knocked four seconds off his career-best with a 1:49.94.

In the 100 free, sophomore Natasha Fung (Edmonton, Canada) had a season-best and NCAA “B” time of 49.11 to finish first. Freshman Lindsey McKnight (Coral Springs, Fla.) finished in 50.93 and sophomore Shelby McLean (Orlando, Fla.) finished in 53.52. Then junior Levar Goossen (Rotterdam, Netherlands) swam his season-best time of 46.08 in the men’s 100 free.

Two Gator women dove in for the 1,650 free, as sophomore Jordan Smith (Longwood, Fla.) finished in 16:43.21 and sophomore Savannah Napier (Chattanooga, Tenn.) touched the wall at 17:00.41. Several men secured NCAA provisional times in the mile. Freshman Ryan Rosenbaum (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) finished in 15:17.25 and sophomore Billy Silva (Gainesville, Fla.) swam a season-best 15:24.86 to earn a NCAA “B” time.

Also swimming for time in the 1,650 free was sophomore Thomas Veale (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) who finished in 15:32.13 and freshman Adam Bull (Dallas, Texas) touched in 15:34.59. Senior Sarra Lajnef (Tunis, Tunisia) improved her time in the 200 breast after clocking in at 2:11.95 for a NCAA “B” time. Sophomore Richard Munch (Clifton, Va.) also had a NCAA “B” time in the 200 breast, after he finished in 1:57.19.

The women’s 200 fly saw several more NCAA “B” times for Gators. Freshman Taylor Roy (Atlanta, Ga.) swam a career-best 1:59.01, sophomore Molly Dubrasky (Oviedo, Fla.) touched in a season-best 1:58.26 and sophomore Summer Stephens (Louisville, Ky.) finished in 1:59.35. Also swimming the 200 fly was Kuhn who finished in a personal-best 2:00.40 and sophomore Lauren Neidigh (Orange Park, Fla.) finished in 2:01.43.

In the men’s 200 fly, sophomore Austin Manganiello (Miami, Fla.) touched the wall first in his personal-best and NCAA “B” time of 1:45.68 and freshman Luke Torres (Miami, Fla.) also recorded a NCAA “B” time with a 1:47.43. Kaisrlik recorder his career-best time in the 200 fly after touching in 1:51.09 and Curley swam his personal-best time of 1:53.15.

Swimming in the time trials, senior Rodion Davelaar (Willemstad, Netherlands) swam a 25.08 in the 50 free. Sophomore Rebecca Rainer (Richmond, Va.) recorded a NCAA “B” time in the 400 IM after finishing in 4:11.27. Sophomore Christian Homer (Trinidad and Tobago) swam a 48.57 in the 100 back and McKnight clocked in at 50.68 in the women’s 100 free.

The men’s 100 free time trial featured Hamilton and Ringquist for the Gator men. Hamilton swam his personal-best 45.12 and Ringquist finished in 45.37. Munch touched the wall in 54.30 for a NCAA “B” time in the 100 breast and Davelaar finished in 55.60. Then in the 100 back time trial Homer touched in 49.29. Lajnef swam a 2:05.39 in the women’s 200 back and Fung improved her NCAA “B” time in the 100 free after finishing with a 48.94.

After this the Gators will wait to see if the times qualify for the NCAA Championships. The women’s will take place from March 21-23 and the men March 28-30 in Indianapolis, Ind. The divers will head to the NCAA Zone Championships March 11-13.
