Following a huge weekend when the Gators earned win against a pair of top-20 opponents, Florida’s Alexandra Cercone (Seminole, Fla.) and Brianna Morgan (Beverly Hills, Calif.) were honored as the Southeastern Conference Player and Freshman of the Week, respectively, the league announced today.

Cercone and Morgan both compiled a combined 3-0 singles and doubles record in the team victories against No. 18 Clemson and No. 13 Stanford.

In the win against Stanford, Cercone upset 10th-ranked Krista Hardebeck, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 and gave Florida its first lead in the match as 3-2.

Cercone’s win against Stanford’s 10th-ranked Hardebeck was the highest-ranked opponent she has defeated in her career; Cercone had lost to Hardebeck 6-2, 6-1 on Jan. 18 – just over one month prior to Sunday’s stunning victory.

Morgan provided the dramatic clinching dual match singles win against Stanford, posting a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 against 98th-ranked Stacy Tan, the 2011 NCAA Singles Championships runner-up. Her win against Tan was the first time she was involved in the clinching dual match decision.

On Friday, Cercone provided the clinching dual match singles win against Clemson, defeating 57th-ranked Beatrice Gumulya, 7-6 (4), 6-4 for the win.

In the win against Clemson, Morgan provided Florida with its first singles victory of the match, helping UF take a 2-1 lead.

Also in the victory against Clemson, Cercone and Morgan teamed and earned the clinching doubles point victory after the other two matches on court had split results.

Florida (6-1) returns to action on Friday, March 1, when the team begins defense of its Southeastern Conference title by playing at league newcomer and 71st-ranked Missouri, before traveling to College Station, Texas, to face sixth-ranked Texas A&M on Sunday.
