The match-up with the Bulls will serve as UF’s first of six games this week, as the Orange and Blue will host a second home tourney March 1-3 at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. Florida is coming off a 4-1 weekend at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs, Calif. UF defeated Loyola Marymount (8-2), Oklahoma State (2-0), Syracuse (5-1) and Georgia Tech (5-3) at the three-day tournament, but UF was edged, 4-3 in a 12-inning non-conference thriller with SEC newcomer Missouri Feb. 22. The 12-inning game with the Tigers counted as the longest game in Florida history, as the Gators had played 11 innings just three times prior to Saturday’s tilt.

The Gators are 3-1 against Top-15 opponents and 1-1 in extra inning contests so far in 2013. Read more notables about Florida entering the USF contest in the pregame notes.

Florida and South Florida are meeting for the first time since May 20, 2012, when USF emerged victorious out of the 2012 NCAA Gainesville Regional to eventually embark on its first-ever WCWS appearance. USF downed UF, 1-0, in the Sunday contest, one of three meetings between the Gators and Bulls last season.

USF was 2-1 against Florida in 2012, and the Bulls’ 4-1 victory over UF March 28, 2012, in Gainesville snapped a 12-game win streak for the Gators over the Bulls. Florida’s match-up with USF is just the Gators’ second contest this season not a part of a tournament. Florida faced Jacksonville at the JU Softball Complex Feb. 13 in a mid-week single game.

After its midweek clash at USF Wednesday, the Gators will return home to the friendly confines of Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium for just the second time this season for UF’s second home tournament of 2013. The Orange and Blue will host Drake, Mount St. Mary’s, FAMU and Presbyterian in the three-day tournament March 1-3 at KSP. The Gators will open the tournament Friday at 4 p.m. with Drake, followed by a 6:15 match-up with Mount St. Mary’s. All Gator games will be live on WYGC-FM 105 The Game, with audio streaming available on GatorZone.com. Live stats for all tournament games will be available on Gametracker.

SCOUTING USF

The Bulls (6-8) enter the match-up with Florida after dropping five straight games at the NFCA Leadoff Classic last weekend in Clearwater, three of those contests decided by a single run. USF is off to a 6-3 start in front of its home crowds at the USF softball stadium this season.

Kourtney Salvarola leads the Bulls at the plate with a .371 batting clip, 13 hits, four doubles and a homer.

In the circle, Sara Nevins leads USF with a 1.30 ERA in seven appearances (2-2 record), with 37 Ks through 32.1 IP. Lindsey Richardson has fanned a team-best 53 batters in 36.1 IP (1.54 ERA) in her 10 appearances.
