Thursday February 21, 2013No. 3 Florida Lacrosse Continues Homestand with UC Davis on Friday
The No. 3 University of Florida lacrosse team continues its three-game home stand as it plays host to UC Davis on Friday. Opening draw is set for 6:30 p.m. and will mark the first meeting in the series for the two teams.
The Gators are coming off a 16-9 win over No. 18/19 Stony Brook on Wednesday in the 2013 home opener at Dizney Stadium. Senior attack Kitty Cullen (Rockville, Md.) had five points on three goals and two assists, marking her 200th career point in her career. Currently, Cullen has 202 points in her career off 161 goals and 41 assists. In addition, senior midfielder Brittany Dashiell (Bel Air, Md.) reached the 100 plateau in ground balls in her career with her two against the Seawolves. Dashiell and sophomore midfielder Shannon Gilroy (Northport, N.Y.) each added four goals in the win.
Currently, the Orange and Blue is in the midst of its best start in program history, besting their 2-0 record in the inaugural 2010 season and will look to extend it against the Aggies on Friday.
UC Davis opens up the 2013 season in Gainesville on Friday before heading to Stetson on Sunday. The Aggies went 6-10 overall and 2-5 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) for a fifth place league finish. They return nine starters from the 2012 squad including their three leading scorers in senior attack Elizabeth Datino (101 points), senior midfielder Hannah Mirza (48 points) and the reigning MPSF co-Newcomer of the Year sophomore midfield Elizabeth Landry (45 points).They are under the direction of first year head coach Katie Henwood, who previously served as an assistant at Villanova.
