Tuesday February 12, 2013No. 3 Florida Lacrosse Travels to Jacksonville on Wednesday
Fresh off a win over No. 5 North Carolina, the No. 3 University of Florida lacrosse team will travel to regional foe Jacksonville for a matchup at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
The Gators hold a 3-0 advantage over the Dolphins (1-1) in the all-time series including a 14-5 win at Dizney Stadium in 2012. In each meeting, the Orange and Blue have won by at least nine goals.
Jacksonville led the nation in scoring offense (18.16 gpg.), scoring margin (9.16 gpg.) and draw controls last season (17.21 dcpg.) They enter the contest at 1-1 with a loss to No. 1 Syracuse (21-8) and a win over Vanderbilt (15-7). They are led by Atlantic Sun Players of the Week senior attack Amanda Hurley and junior attack Brittney Orashen. Hurley has scored five goals on the season including four against the Commodores. Orashen secured six ground balls in two games, including five against Syracuse, while adding four caused turnovers and six draw controls while chipping in two goals and an assist.
Florida is coming of a historic win over No. 5 North Carolina on Saturday. The Gators had previously never beaten the Tar Heels or any opponent from the Atlantic Coast Conference in the program’s four-year history. UF erased a 3-1 halftime deficit as it scored five unanswered goals en route to the 5-3 victory. Senior attack Gabi Wiegand (Bay Shore, N.Y.) led the Gators on the afternoon with two goals, including the go-ahead goal, and an assist. Senior goalie Mikey Meagher (Liverpool, N.Y.) was named the WomensLax.com Player of the Week after her nine save performance against the Tar Heels.
